2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe pics and comments

So I'm posting this car because it rocks!!! This is the first rear wheel drive 4 cylinder 5 seat coupe to be sold in the USA since the Nissan 240SX, which was last sold in 1998. So that's 12 years missing the best platform for auto enthusiasts, FR 4 cylinder (FR=front engine rear drive). This is the first rear wheel drive Turbo 4 cylinder to be sold in the USA since the Dodge Conquest/Mitsubishi Starion last sold in like 1988 or so. I'm pretty sure that is the last one.

Anyway, this car should be a hit in the thriving aftermarket who has eaten up the Subaru WRX and Lancer Evolution and who has brought old japanese cars back to life like the 1989-98 Nissan 240SX and 1984-87 Toyota Corolla GT-S. Surfing/browsing the many internet forums dedicated to these cars and the enthusiast owners who spend thousands of dollars to resurrect and swap japanese turbo engines into these old cars because there are no new cars on the market that match the needs and wants of these drifting/time attacking nuts. So, if Hyundai can keep the base GS Turbo 4 Genesis around or below $20k and the upgraded SE under about $24k, they'll have a hit. Make the sunroof optional too, not part of the SE package.
I'll see if I can convince my wife that this will be my first brand new car. ;) In the mean time, I look forward to more details such as curb weight, pricing, wheel/tire sizes and what the aftermarket will hold. It will also be nice to get confirmation that the Turbo 4 engine is the Mitsubishi based 4B11T engine found in the upcoming Lancer Ralliart (240hp) and the recently released Lancer Evolution X with 291hp/300tq. The little info I have seen on evolutionm.net of tuners playing with the Evo X's version of the 4B11T is with stock turbo, a tune, manual boost controller and exhaust and intercooler and piping upgrades, they're seeing 400hp. Can't wait!!

Hyundai Coupe 2010 Specs and Trim Levels

NEW YORK CITY — At the 2008 New York Auto Show, Hyundai has peeled the covers off the production-ready Genesis coupe, the two-door companion to the rear-wheel-drive Genesis sedan. The Genesis coupe will go on sale in the U.S. in spring 2009, as a 2010 model. Hyundai initially will offer two engines in the Genesis coupe: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 212 horsepower and 217 pound-feet of torque, and a normally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 rated at 306 hp and 263 lb-ft. The output ratings are slightly higher on premium fuel at 310 hp for the V6 and 223 hp for the turbo four. Both engines will come with a standard six-speed manual gearbox. Optional transmissions include a ZF six-speed automatic, with manual shift capability on the V6, and a five-speed Shiftronic automatic on the four-cylinder. Hyundai says the Genesis coupe with V6 will sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than 6.0 seconds, with a top speed of 149 mph. The Korean automaker has not yet revealed pricing on the Genesis coupe but said it will be aimed at the Infiniti G37 coupe, which lists for $35,215. Standard equipment includes stability control, pushbutton start, outside temperature gauge and an iPod jack. What this means to you:Hyundai says the Genesis coupe won't share the sedan's new V8 — not yet anyway. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

2010 Genesis Coupe ArchitectureGenesis Coupe’s body shell is rich in ultra-high-tensile steel. Genesis Coupe is lighter than the Infiniti G37, and its chassis is also 24 percent stiffer in bending rigidity than the BMW E46 M3. Rear-wheel drive provides a 55:45 front/rear weight distribution.

POWERTRAINS
2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter Lambda DOHC V6 EngineTwo engines infuse Genesis Coupe with performance. The 3.8-liter Lambda DOHC V6 engine delivers an estimated 306 horsepower (310 horsepower using premium fuel) and 263 lb.-ft. of torque on regular unleaded. This engine will launch the Genesis Coupe from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under six seconds. To maximize the power band, the 3.8-liter engine utilizes Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) on intake cam shafts and a new Variable Intake System (VIS) that helps cylinders breathe efficiently at both low and high RPM. The better breathing results in outstanding off-the-line acceleration and passing performance, and remarkable fuel efficiency. The V6 engine uses an alloy block and cylinder heads for lighter weight and thermal efficiency, and features timing chains with no scheduled maintenance. The turbocharged, intercooled 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder benefits from CVVT on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. The 2.0-liter turbo generates an estimated 212 horsepower (223 horsepower using premium fuel) and 217 lb.-ft. of torque. It also features a cast-aluminum cylinder block and cylinder head. Both engines feature a free flowing dual cat-back exhaust and an available limited slip differential to put the power to the ground.

While all Genesis Coupe models offer a fun and sporty driving experience, the high-performance Genesis Coupe SE is a most willing partner for the true enthusiast. The SE’s track-tuned sport suspension features a stiffer front spring rate, stiffer rear spring rate and unique shock valving. Genesis Coupe SE delivers an increase in roll control over the GS. Superb structural rigidity sets the foundation for precisely-tuned handling performance in all Genesis Coupes.

HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKING SYSTEMSBrembo four-piston calipers clamp down on 13.4-inch front brake rotors and 13-inch rear rotors on SE models. All other models get substantial 12.6-inch front ventilated rotors and 12.4-inch rotors in the rear with floating single piston calipers.

THREE DISTINCT TRIM LEVELSThe Genesis Coupe is offered in three trim levels: the stylish and affordable GS, the premium-sport GT featuring the 3.8-liter V6, and the high-performance SE, available with either the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or the 3.8-liter V6 engine.

Enjoy, this stuff is amazing! I wish I spoke japanese:

Back in the Jap Day! Skyline GT-R "OG"

This is an awesome video of a Hakosuka Nissan Skyline GT-R that owned the GT races in the 70's. Gotta love that inline 6 cylinder singing its song. Just watch and listen and learn! :) ha ha Sorry, I'm cheesy but this stuff gives me goose bumps ala P51D's Rolls Royce V12.
