Hechtspeed attends Planes of Fame's Central Coast Airfest 2026

The crew arrived Friday evening to Santa Maria, California after about a 3 hour drive from Tehachapi. It's a pretty drive into the San Joaquin Valley and then into the mountains and through the Cuyama Valley and finally into Santa Maria on the coast. As we drove up to the airport, the T33 was doing his practice demonstration. We stopped and got out of the car outside the gates and enjoyed various warbirds practicing. We grabbed some In-N-Out before coming back to watch the Mig15 do a sunset demo!

We got up early and were first in line at the airshow. We call that "rope dropping" an airshow! haha
The morning was filled with typical coastline "soup", but it burned off before the show got going. It was a high of like 74F by mid-day. It was perfect!

We headed out after the show and made the 3 hour trek back to Tehachapi. I started the long drive home Sunday morning early and was rewarded with this beauty of a sunrise looking East!
